3C Software Provides Enterprise Cost Management Solutions
for Reopened Canadian Paper Production Plant
3C Software announces an enterprise software license
agreement with Canada ’s newest paper production facility,
Gaspésia Papers. Through 3C Software’s partnership with
Honeywell, the Impact:ECS™ Enterprise Cost System provides
Honeywell OptiVision clients the ability to integrate cost
and profitability management tools with shop floor and
corporate enterprise systems. The plant, which is scheduled
to begin production in mid-2004, is a highly modernized
facility designed to produce high-quality coated paper.
In October 1999, Abitibi-Consolidated decided to close the
Gaspésia production facility in Chandler, Quebec amid issues
over rising production costs and low demand for newsprint.
The next year, a consortium of investors purchased the idled
plant with the goal of job creation in an area hard-hit with
unemployment and economic adversity. Modernization of the
facility includes best-of-breed machine and technology
solutions to become a competitive force in the Canadian
paper market.
Impact:ECS will provide the plant with a flexible cost
management platform that is customizable for the complex
manufacturing processes of pulp and paper producers. The
solution will allow cost managers at Gaspésia to track and
analyze an unlimited number of user-defined products and
processes providing needed information for standard and
actual costing, inventory valuation and scenario analysis.
Impact:ECS’ integration with OptiVision, industry standard
database systems and commercial ERP platforms will give
business leaders at Gaspésia the necessary tools to generate
accurate and timely cost information.
