Impact:ECS … It’s a Gas! Dakota Gasification Company to Implement Enterprise Cost System

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dakota Gasification Company, a subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, is the only commercial coal-to-natural gas production facility in the United States. Each year the facility transforms six million tons of coal into 54 billion cubic feet of natural gas, 3 million cubic feet of carbon dioxide and a mix of other fertilizers, solvents, and chemicals. The company has retained 3C Software to implement its Impact:ECS Enterprise Cost System that will deliver detailed actual daily production costs for all products produced at the facility.

Along with the finance team at Dakota Gas, the 3C Software professional services team will develop cost models that will integrate with SAP, general ledger and other existing systems, to calculate both non-GAAP daily process costs and monthly results that are GAAP compliant. The project will include developing allocation methods to extrapolate results and distribute overhead costs as well as variance reporting to analyze and interpret cost results. Beyond cost calculation, the Dakota Gas team will have the ability to run “what-if” analysis based on actual data without affecting source data to improve their forecasts and overall operations decisions.

This project marks a milestone for 3C Software in the utilities industry. “We’ve worked in a number of industries over the years, and this opportunity to work with one of the leading natural gas providers will further demonstrate the flexibility of Impact:ECS to meet the needs of process-intensive companies,” stated Matthew Smith, CEO of 3C Software. “Our ability to deliver very specific cost modeling capabilities will give Dakota Gas the tools to calculate granular cost results for their entire production process.”
